What is Fukuyama Auto & Clock Museum?

In the quiet downtown area of Fukuyama City, there’s a building with a nostalgic exterior that’s surrounded by cars and seems to appear from nowhere. It looks like a restaurant at first, but it’s actually Fukuyama Auto & Clock Museum.

The museum opened in July 1989, with the motto “Ride, See, Feel, and Take Pictures.” You can actually get on and sit in many different kinds of vehicles! Reception is available at the center entrance. It’s best to take your camera when you visit here!

The Highlights of the Museum

The great thing about this museum is that you can enjoy these items in many ways true to their motto. As you will see when visit, everything on display is valuable and well cared for. So, being able get on such great items truly makes this a “museum you can experience”!

Getting on the Displays

Real classic cars that look almost like toys. They are kept in pristine condition. You can get on almost all of the cars, and also move their steering wheels. Both children and car loving adults will be ecstatic!

You can thoroughly examine the interiors of the classic cars since you can actually get in them. Looking at them today, these old cars have a fairly simple build. It’s amazing to imagine that they were once actually driven around town.

Classic cars lined up, sure to delight car lovers.

A two wheeled vehicle sits coolly…This is a Toyopet RT40 Corona Sedan 1500 Deluxe, displayed here for a limited time. If you ask the staff, they will let you go inside.

Due to limited times of the displays, there are some areas where the display cars may be changed out, so be sure to check!

A Wall Full of Retro Clocks

In addition to Classic cars, extremely old clocks are also displayed all over the place here. You may be surprised to find that almost all are still working!

Unexpectedly, even though there are so many clocks ticking, a very kind and comforting sound resonates around you. Aside from wall clocks, there are also the fine workings of watches on display within glass cases.

This museum is packed with a great number of clocks and parts. It’s completely different from other museums. It’s a place for true enthusiasts, and really interesting!

There’s More Displayed Than Just Cars & Clocks!

This is the “Cherokee” from Piper Aircraft, one of the three largest light aircraft companies in the world. Stairs are attached on the left, so you can climb inside.

You step on the main wing for a moment to climb inside. Once in the plane, I moved the control wheel, and heard the rattling of the tailplane moving!

You can also see inside old fashioned Japanese houses.

Bicycles from 1954, equipped with “miniature vehicle assistance engines”, or what we simply call today “electric bicycles”. It’s fun to see just how much technology has progressed!

There are even phones as old as these! You can really learn about Japanese history here.

Inside the museum there is a souvenir corner.
You can also make an original medal with your name engraved in it! (For a fee.)
