Tomonoura

Firstly, the representative place in Fukuyama is here, Tomonoura, designated as Setonaikai National Park. There are rich in peaceful and tranquil sights, old town atmosphere, and historical sites.

It is recommendable to visit for just have lots of tasty sea bream caught in Tomo port, and good local sake as well as landscape, so you can enjoy these food and sake here.

Fukuyama Zoo

65 species and 406 animals are raised in the zoo, and exhibited in nine zones such as Penguin Zone, Savanna Zone, The Cursorial Birds/Barrier-free Animal Zone, etc.

The closest exhibition to nature is designed so that you can observe animals as it is. Also, Night Safari is held on Saturdays of August so you can watch the animals of night which are not available usually.

Abuto Kannon

Abuto Kannon is built at the tip of the cape jutting out into the sea and one of the famous sites in Tomonoura. Wave laps onto the cliff just under there, and it is known as magnificent scenery as you can look out over the islands in Seto Inland Sea and the horizon.

Oppai Ema (a breast shaped votive wooden tablet painted with a picture of a horse) are dedicated to pray for a safe birth in the shrine so why not check them.

Rose Park

Fukuyama is cherished as “rose town”, and this Rose Park is symbolized the city. About 280 species 5500 roots of roses are planted this park. You can see roses of various colors blooming there.

Various events such as Rose Festival, Illumination are held on May. The roses are at their best just then so visiting there on May is highly recommended.

Taichoro

Next from Tomonoura, let me introduce Fukuzenji Temple Taichoro. The scenery is also wonderful and reviewed as the most beautiful scenic resort in the east area from the Korean Peninsula. The beautiful landscape is still remained, and able to be looked from the Reception Hall. It is the best spot to face on Seto Inland Sea with feeling the history.

Fukuyama Castle

When you arrive at Fukuyama Station, Fukuyma Castle near the north entrance of the station attracts your eye. It has not so many differences of altitude so that people who are not accustomed with walking around castles can visit there.
